Chocolate Covered Date Hearts

Prep Time 20 minutes
Freeze time 25 minutes
Total Time 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 15 medjool dates
  • 150 g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • Nut butter for filling, or whole nuts (optional)
Example toppings:
  • Freeze-dried strawberry/raspberry pieces
  • Chopped almonds/pistachios
  • Cacao nibs
  • Rose petals
  • Coconut bits

Method

  1. Cut each date across at a 45-degree angle and remove the pit.
  2. Fill each date with a small amount of nut butter, or a whole nut.
  3. Flip one half of the date 180 degrees and press the two halves together to shape the date into a heart.
  4. Place dates on a tray in the fridge or freezer for 10 minutes.
  5. Add the chocolate and coconut oil to a heatproof bowl and warm over a pan of simmering water. Stir occasionally until melted.
  6. Using a fork, dip each heart into the melted chocolate to evenly coat it. Allow the excess to drip off and place back on a tray.
  7. While the chocolate is still soft, sprinkle your preferred toppings over it.
  8. Coat all of the dates in chocolate and place back in the fridge or freezer for 15 minutes to set.
  9. Store in an airtight container. Enjoy!
